Target For Share Or Target For Efficiency
30 something Audience targeting is a strategy. Programmers learn that big shifts have consequences, some intended and some not. Commercial channel managers like salable targets, young people historically. But they’re subject to mood swings. The answer might be 30-somethings.

New radio website opens
Good sources always appreciated

Radio broadcasters across the globe number in the hundreds of thousands. Knowing this I have been dismayed in recent years by the diminishing coverage of this vibrant and popular medium. Major media editors are more drawn to smartphones, I guess.

So it is with great interest the opening of a radio broadcasters website in Ireland, RadioToday.ie. It’s an off-shoot of the RadioToday UK site. We’ll be checking it out regularly because radio broadcasting in Ireland is always interesting.

In addition to the RadioToday UK site, we regularly visit RadioActu (France) , GiornaleRadio (Italy), Radio Portal (Russia), Radionytt (Sweden), Radionytt (Norway), RadioFreak (Netherlands), and the essential source for radio in German-speaking countries RadioWoche. Sadly, we’ve lost a few good web sources in recent months. (JMH)

The Six Radio Brands is about the uniquely European development of radio brands. Competition among broadcasters - and certainly between the public and commercial sectors - gives radio in Europe a rich dynamic. As consumers become more media-literate and demand more attachment broadcasters find target markets illusive.
Regulators, advertisers and broadcasters take turns trying to influence radio brands. Culture and technology makes an impact. More and more, the greatest influence comes from consumers.
The Six Radio Brands describes advantages and pit-falls of brand strategies, with illustrations from current radio practice.
