Audience stable despite digital
Constant and constant changing
Top line data on German radio listening released by ag.ma (July 9) shows very slight changes in audience behavior based on the spring survey. Time spent listening bumped up to 249 minutes from 247 in the previous survey as total reach rose to 94.0% from 93.6%.
“In spite of the changing media, people in Germany are extremely loyal radio listeners,” said ag.ma boss Dieter Müller in the press release. “For advertisers and advertising agencies, radio remains a constant in a changing media market.” German media buyers calculate spot rates based on the twice-yearly surveys.
All the details will be released next week (July 16) followed by a deluge of press releases from eager German broadcasters. Slightly out of the ordinary is the pre-release data from Bavaria. It seems Antenna Bayern tipped the charts with over 4 million listeners. Of persons 10 years and older 8.9% have access to a DAB receiver and 2.1% listen to radio via DAB each day. Daily internet radio listening is higher at 3.2%.

The Six Radio Brands is about the uniquely European development of radio brands. Competition among broadcasters - and certainly between the public and commercial sectors - gives radio in Europe a rich dynamic. As consumers become more media-literate and demand more attachment broadcasters find target markets illusive.
Regulators, advertisers and broadcasters take turns trying to influence radio brands. Culture and technology makes an impact. More and more, the greatest influence comes from consumers.
The Six Radio Brands describes advantages and pit-falls of brand strategies, with illustrations from current radio practice.
