Radio listening in Poland may bob and weave across quarterly reports but RMF FM has stayed on top forever. In the national Radio Track audience estimates from Kantar Polska RMF FM had a 28.4% share in the October-December 2019 quarter, up robustly from 26.0% year on year. RMF FM is a pop-rock music channel with significant news output, owned by Bauer Media. The Radio Track national audience estimates report listening by persons 12 to 75 years and appear monthly.
Radio ZET placed second, 12.5% share, slightly lower from 12.7% one year on. Radio ZET and its sister stations - Chillizet, Antyradio, Meloradio and Radio Plus - were acquired last April by publisher Agora Group and Czech investment fund SFR Ventures, management changes at the broadcaster followed. Radio Plus was spun-off on advice of the Polish competition authorities. RMF FM and Radio ZET were the first and second, respectively, privately-owned radio broadcasters in Poland, launched in 1990.
Radio Eska, a national hit music network, came in third, again, with 7.9% share, up from 7.3%. It, too, went through several personnel changes in 2019. It is owned by publisher and broadcaster ZPR Media, which also holds the Eska Rock, Radio Wawa, VOX FM and the aforementioned Radio Plus. (See Poland national radio audience trend chart here)
State broadcaster Polska Radio had disappointing results. Main general interest channel PR1 Jedynka dropped to 5.3% share from 5.9%, weakest showing ever, and is now tied for 4th place with youth channel PR3 Trojka, which dropped to 5.3% share from 5.6%. All-news channel PR4 Radio 24 was unchanged at 0.6% share. Culture channel PR2 Dwojka was lower at 0.4% share.
Polskie Radio has also gone through significant management shuffles, even this week. The National Media Council (RMN) dismissed Andrzej Rogoyski as president, reported media portal wirtunemedia.pl (January 22). He had been in the job for 14 months. He was replaced by Agnieszka Kaminska, who had been director of PR1 Jedynka for a year. Since last November PR3 Trojka has been through several senior management changes. RMF Maxx placed 6th with 3.5% share, up slightly. VOX FM trailed at 7th place with 3.4% share, significantly lower one year on. Zlote Przeboje came in at 2.6% share and 8th place, down from 2.9% share. News/talk TOK FM saw a significant jump to 2.5% share and 9th place, up from 2.1% share year on year. It was the best showing for TOK FM in two years. Also on the rise is Antyradio, 2.2% share for 10th place, up from 1.8%. The other radio channel with notable movement was religious station Radio Maryja, 1.4% share, down from 1.8% share one year on.

The Six Radio Brands is about the uniquely European development of radio brands. Competition among broadcasters - and certainly between the public and commercial sectors - gives radio in Europe a rich dynamic. As consumers become more media-literate and demand more attachment broadcasters find target markets illusive.
Regulators, advertisers and broadcasters take turns trying to influence radio brands. Culture and technology makes an impact. More and more, the greatest influence comes from consumers.
The Six Radio Brands describes advantages and pit-falls of brand strategies, with illustrations from current radio practice.
