Tradition Need Not Apply
On Air Give advertising people a proper canvas, metaphorically speaking, and magic can happen. They do have a way with words. They exist to sell things, to be sure, but also to make the best use of that canvas.

Radio station ordered to apologize
Three days

The district Court of Warsaw, Poland has ordered a national commercial radio station – Radio ZET – to apologize for reporting about a politician’s lobbying for the interests of a gaming operator, reports freepl.info (June 20). Radio Zet reported in a November 2009 newscast that Chancellery Minister Robert Draba, no longer in office, lobbied on behalf of sports betting house Totalizator Sportowy in 2007. Other media in Poland picked up and reported the story.

The court found the radio station violated Draba’s rights as “one could not say that there had been any lobbying.” Radio ZET, owned by French media house Lagardère, must make the broadcast apologies on three consecutive days at 1500 local time. The station must also publish the apologize in newspaper Rzeczpospolita on page A9 in the same font size as the original article plus mount the apology on web news portal Onet.pl. (See more on media in Poland here)

The attorney for Radio ZET, Tomasz Galczynski, indicated an appeal is likely. (JMH)

The Six Radio Brands is about the uniquely European development of radio brands. Competition among broadcasters - and certainly between the public and commercial sectors - gives radio in Europe a rich dynamic. As consumers become more media-literate and demand more attachment broadcasters find target markets illusive.
Regulators, advertisers and broadcasters take turns trying to influence radio brands. Culture and technology makes an impact. More and more, the greatest influence comes from consumers.
The Six Radio Brands describes advantages and pit-falls of brand strategies, with illustrations from current radio practice.
