Delux Radio - LAUNCH OF NEW COMMERICAL RADIO STATION - February 21, 2018
from Penelope James for Delux Radio

A new, commercial internet radio station, Delux Radio, is to launch on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 12 noon GMT.

Broadcasting live and 24/7 the station promises to play “music with personality” featuring tracks from the past six decades right up to current chart hits, as well as music from a wide range of genres including Country, Pop, Party Anthems, Decade Shows and World Reggae.

Brain-child of Looker editor, David Wimble and I.T. and digital media business owner, Gareth Hurford-Jones and partners, Delux Radio has already signed up an impressive list of respected DJs from Radio Caroline, Radio Luxembourg, Capital Radio and BBC Radios 1 & 2 including Mark Page, Pat Sharp, Tippa Irie, Clive Brady, Rob Charles, Geoff Dorsett, Debi Jones, Roger Twiggy Day, Tim Rogers and Mike Mendoza.

Delux Radio is to be a fresh sounding station which combines established radio stars with new and exciting talent, each choosing tracks they wish to play in the order they wish to play them from a library of over 1 million.

Comments David Wimble, Delux Radio’s station director: “Right from the start I knew I wanted a station which not only played a vast array of great music from the 1960s onwards, but also music chosen by knowledgeable, entertaining DJs who have bags of personality, presence and enthusiasm, and who are unrestrained by a closed music policy. I also wanted to establish a station which could provide that “added extra” in terms of interactive features and listener inclusion, which we have been developing which are unique to Delux Radio.”

Ex-pirate DJ, Roger Day who has joined the star-studded team of Delux Radio DJs explains why he was so attracted to the station: “I get freedom, freedom to choose my own choice of music.  I’ll be playing a complete mix of tracks from my days at Radio Caroline in the 60s right the way through to the very latest in popular music. Not only that, I was really impressed by David Wimble, the station director’s commitment and vision and once I had seen the studios I simply couldn’t resist.”

As a commercial station Delux Radio will be seeking both advertising and sponsorship and already has secured interest from several national and international companies.  Says sales director, Sarah Philpott: “Delux Radio offers a fabulous platform on which advertisers and sponsors can promote their businesses to a global, targeted and captive audience. In addition to on-air advertising we are offering the opportunity for our DJs to interact and talk about our advertisers’ businesses live on air and for businesses to interact with our listeners via a range of features including competition prizes, online quizzes, games and social media. Our key demographic is adults 45+ and currently our audience is split 70% male and 30% female. While not a member of Ofcom at present we have pledged to follow Ofcom regulations and guidelines.”

Delux Radio, operating in beta mode since November 2017, is available via its interactive web site – www.deluxradio.com, its Facebook Page and a number of digital apps including TuneIn Radio, Radio Box and SoundStar. It has already attracted significant attention in the radio industry and has attracted over half a million listeners to its test streams and almost 6,000 followers via social media.

Located near Ashford in Kent the station boasts purpose-built studios within a recently renovated water mill utilising all the latest broadcast and streaming equipment.  The station is run alongside digital media company Red Dragon I.T. Ltd whose owner, Gareth Hurford-Jones is a partner in the venture and whose company has brought diversity and vitality to the project and enabled the broadcast team to think outside the box in terms of digital possibilities. As a result, Delux Radio can offer a number of unique interactive features alongside listener inclusion which have been tried and tested, including direct links from our website to sponsors.
